Discussion Summary

Explorer Judy introduces the group to a folding seat - the Cane Seat Sling - that serves as a cane when in the folded position. On an outing, she reports that long periods of walking or standing become uncomfortable for her.

The standard style cane with fold-down seat doesn't provide her adequate surface area for comfortable seating, and the cane handle is too easy to perch on the edge of a counter and then forget and walk away. She has found an inexpensive alternative design that provides an ample folding sling seat. When folded, it serves as a cane for stability while walking. Drawbacks are that the cane is not height adjustable, and the strap seat could be unstable unless used as directed.

Members' comments reflect concern about improper use leading to instability, and the awkwardness of the cane if used over a prolonged period. However, they see the benefit of the sling seat for a temporary rest while shopping, out at the museum or on a long trip. As well, they like the low price and some like the weight of the product, although others find it cumbersome and heavy.

In summary, most like it, and agree that if the choice is carrying it vs. not being able to go somewhere, the easy choice is to take it along.
