Discussion Summary

Explorers are asked if someone in the San Francisco group who attended the recent UCSF sponsored exploration to research a developing brain function app would like to tell about it. Explorer Louise reports her experience in the workshop working 1:1 with a researcher:

  • We were testing games to improve cognitive function.
  • We were asked about likes and dislikes.
  • Researchers asked us about interesting features.
  • In general, we were testing the usability of the programs.

She reports that while it was largely interesting, some of her fellow subjects reported becoming annoyed - calling the exercises "boring." Louise opines that this may have been purposely induced by the researchers to study ability to maintain focus.

In all, Louise found it to be an interesting experience, and was impressed that it was a high powered project. It is ongoing, as reports indicate that early efforts do not seem to maintain or increase cognitive function over time.
