Medication Management and Adherence: Page 2 | Older Adult Perspectives

The Impact Theme series: Longevity Explorers Discuss.

Medication Management & Adherence is an ongoing theme in our Longevity Explorer discussions.

We are exploring the existing solutions, and what our explorers see as the problems with those solutions. We are also exploring in depth how our older adult explorers manage their own medications, and a number of very different approaches have emerged.

We hope innovators will find our insights helpful as they design new products and services.

Hear what Older Adults Think: Medication Management and Adherence

A Handy Pillbox

Explorer Dick shared one of his everyday gadgets: A repurposed Altoids tin to carry a small 'emergency' supply of suppliments and medications. With a little paper packing, everything stays neatly in place until the need arises.

Explorer report: pill crushers

A circle member reports back on initial exploration into the topic of pill crushers. This is a followup to the prior month's discussion in which the group talked about the need for a pill crusher.

Medication Reminders: EVC circle discussion

This group's discussion segued into a conversation about reminders to help take medication on time. Among other things, the members talked about the usefulness of reminders depending on both a person's level of cognition, and also the number of times a day one needs to take medication, and the critical-ness of it happening at a precise time.

Better Pill Crusher

The group discussed one member's desire for a better pill crusher. The conversation branched off into better pill cutters, and some related things. The circle plans to do some research on better pill crushers and report back in the explorer part of next month's circle. Stay tuned.

Medication Reminder and Velcro Shirt Closures

I need a way to help not forget to take my medications on time. AND, I have trouble with my shirt buttons and want to get a short with Velcro closures but don't know where to go.

Medication adherence: HYS Circle discussion July 2014

At the July 9 AIP meet-up, an ad-hoc group of people spent approximately 30 minutes discussing the topic of medication adherence.

About the Impact Theme Series

Our Longevity Explorers (hundreds of older adults with ages ranging from 60-95 years old) meet regularly to discuss topics at the intersection of aging and technology.

Among the many topics we discuss in these meetings, we have been exploring some specific themes which we think are going to be very important for older adults in the future, and which in our opinion are ripe for innovation. These make up our Impact Themes, and Medication Management and Adherence is one of these themes.

In these discussions:

  • We share how we do things today;
  • We explore and critique existing products;
  • We talk about challenges we have that we wish products could solve; and
  • We dream up product concepts we wish someone like you would develop.

If you are developing products or services for older adults in the category of Medication Management and Adherence, listen to the Longevity Explorer discussions on this page to get insights about how to develop better products and services for older adults.
