IrisVision Low Vision Aids

IrisVision

From the Tech-enhanced Life Resource Database:

Tools for improving the quality of life as we grow older — shared by the Tech-enhanced Life community.

Summary

IrisVision uses a dedicated smartphone embedded in a headset. The intent is to use virtual reality technology to drive the phone's camera, rendering real time images that can be seen by users with low vision.

From the website: "lrisVisionTM Live is the world’s first and only smart visual assistive device built on VR technology that transforms the way people with low vision see and connect. More than a visual aid, IrisVision is a rich rehabilitation platform designed to help people with low vision successfully engage with the world and achieve new levels of independence. Now you can restore your patients’ vision – and their hope – to help them change the way they live and do the things they love."

Tech-enhanced Life Resource Database

This is one of hundreds of products and resources in the Tech-enhanced Life database of "useful products and resources".

The theme of this collection of resources is "tools we can use to help improve our quality of life as we grow older".

We have no vested interest in any of these products or services, but we have collected descriptions of them, and organized them according to various themes relating to the challenges of aging — so older adults and their families can find useful products they do not yet know about.

Members of Tech-enhanced Life can search by categories, add reviews of the products, and see links to the manufacturer's websites where they can buy the product or access the resource.

The criteria for adding products and resources to this database is that we think they "look useful, noteworthy, and interesting", and have the potential to improve life for older adults and their families. We have evaluated some of these products, in which case you will see links to a detailed review and or to explorer discussions about the product on this page, or inputs from explorers in the comments.

If the listing does not include reviews or explorer discussions, then we have not evaluated it sufficiently to be able to recommend it or comment on how well it works. If you research this product or resource further, and especially if you try it out, please come back to this page and add your comments.

* Full Disclosure: In some cases, the links that take you away from our website to the website of the "company" may be "affiliate links". If you use these links when you buy any of the products we write about, we sometimes get a small percentage of the sale from the manufacturer, which we use to support our research. (This does not effect the price you pay). For more details, see How we Fund our Work.
