Discussion Summary

Explorer Steve reports that he uses FaceTime to visit with his sister, who then uses it to show him something that has broken so he can explain to her how to fix it.

Judy tells about sisters who have loved to cook together for years, and now continue to do so using Skype.

Others note how video calling is being adopted by the medical community for medical advice without having to visit doctors' offices. As well, insurers are offering an app called MD Live to facilitate consultation between enrolees and a medical professional.

Some group members express doubt that they have enough friends who can use video calling to make it worthwhile, yet others find it invaluable for visits to friends and families who live internationally.

Time zone differences and busy schedules as well as hearing loss are challenges to making such calls, and lead to the conclusion that prior appointments for calling are a good idea.

Some members are amazed that video calling is possible wordwide at no cost.

Others quail at the thought that their faces would be seen on the call, evoking laughter among the group.

Ayanna closes by saying that most of her relatives are not familiar with video calling, and she feels challenged to lead the way by teaching them how to use it.
