Discussion Summary

Explorer Rosalie describes a portable motorized mobility device that folds to a compact size, and one that she has often seen used on shipboard. She mentions the Zinger, which she describes as able to be folded to the size of a piece of luggage for carrying on board a ship or aircraft.

Comments and questions from group members include:

  • Should one consult a Physical Therapist about which equipment is best suited to the person
  • Does Medicare cover all types of wheelchairs
  • A Segway is an option that is bulky, heavy, and requires standing and balance skills.
  • Q: What about a 'sitting' Segway? A: It may be better than a standing model, but still needs balance skills.

The consensus is that we need more information and discussion about folding motorized mobility devices, and that perhaps other Longevity Explorer groups may have valuable information.
