Discussion Summary

San Francisco Explorers learn about an automatic pill dispenser which was recently included in a Tech-enhanced Life feature article on the topic.

  • For managing meds with a complicated regimen of pills. Program it using an app. At those times it signals and the pills drop into the cup.
  • Filling the machine is an advantage - for each pill type - load the whole prescription bottle at one time.
  • Avoid counting daily or weekly doses and the chance of making an error.
  • Alerts the taker at the time a dose is dispensed.
  • Good when the filler is not the pill taker.
  • Up to 10 different kinds of pills

Comments and observations from the group are mixed:

  • One must correctly program the machine for it to be accurate.
  • Designed for someone who is at home - might miss a dose if not present unless programmed for an early dose to take out.
  • "Too expensive"
  • "Too tall for average kitchen countertop"
  • Better if it were a robot that would bring the pills to you.
  • Too big for a table in a living room. Looks OK except for height. Takes counter space.
  • Looks hygenic and nicely designed. Generic in appearance.
  • I can't tell what it is at first glance.
  • Are there color options?
  • I saw one for cat food.
  • Best for a care giver to program and load the meds.

Caveat: Need to carry a phone and have it turned on if you go out - so as to be reminded to take your dose from the portable container.
