Discussion and Reviews

I walked all over downtown Silver Spring, MD. Lucky for the u-step I was there to hold it up - or it would have tipped over several times. It gets stuck on the dimples on corners put there for people with sight difficulties. Didn't allow me to use large strides at all. Probably better for "more advanced people" inside - with small wheels, etc. Maybe at almost 6 feet I am just to tall to use it? I used the one with arm rests "platform" and did not need the neurop add ons yet) but that didn't help me walk due to dystonia in legs. I wouldn't recommend for dystonia dominant Parkinson's people. I see the version used a lot for half the price - might be acceptable. I now use a $75 shopping cart when needed and am looking into wheelchairs. U-Step has good customer service. Nearest alternatives are Up-walker and maybe the oasis space or Elenker. Haven't tried those but did talk o a DME sales guy who recommended I NOT buy the similar DRIVE model he had in stock. Also tried the drive nitro. - Not any better but maybe more stylish than using a shopping cart.

Tech-enhanced Life Resource Database

This is one of hundreds of products and resources in the Tech-enhanced Life database of "useful products and resources".

The theme of this collection of resources is "tools we can use to help improve our quality of life as we grow older".

We have no vested interest in any of these products or services, but we have collected descriptions of them, and organized them according to various themes relating to the challenges of aging — so older adults and their families can find useful products they do not yet know about.

Members of Tech-enhanced Life can search by categories, add reviews of the products, and see links to the manufacturer's websites where they can buy the product or access the resource.

The criteria for adding products and resources to this database is that we think they "look useful, noteworthy, and interesting", and have the potential to improve life for older adults and their families. We have evaluated some of these products, in which case you will see links to a detailed review and or to explorer discussions about the product on this page, or inputs from explorers in the comments.

If the listing does not include reviews or explorer discussions, then we have not evaluated it sufficiently to be able to recommend it or comment on how well it works. If you research this product or resource further, and especially if you try it out, please come back to this page and add your comments.
