Tools for improving the quality of life as we grow older — shared by the Tech-enhanced Life community.

Summary

Elder Rage is the life experience of a daughter who left her career as a TV producer in Los Angeles to care for first one, then two aging parents with dementia. Her insights into the problems and approaches to care - and the cost, financially as well as healthwise to the caregiver - is invaluable.

From the website: "A Book-of-the-Month Club selection, Elder Rage is a unique combination non-fiction novel and self-help book. Includes a wealth of practical information, valuable resources, Alzheimer’s disease information, startling statistics, long term care insurance, caregiving tips, eldercare services, long term care trends, recommended reading, and how to hire live-in caregiving help. Suitable for anyone facing the challenges of caregiving and for everyone who thinks it will never happen to them!"

Tech-enhanced Life Resource Database

This is one of hundreds of products and resources in the Tech-enhanced Life database of "useful products and resources".

The theme of this collection of resources is "tools we can use to help improve our quality of life as we grow older".

We have no vested interest in any of these products or services, but we have collected descriptions of them, and organized them according to various themes relating to the challenges of aging — so older adults and their families can find useful products they do not yet know about.

Members of Tech-enhanced Life can search by categories, add reviews of the products, and see links to the manufacturer's websites where they can buy the products.

Note: If you want to support our work, please use these links when you buy any of the products we write about, as we sometimes get a small percentage of the sale from the manufacturer, which we use to support our research. (This does not effect the price you pay).

Jacqueline Marcell has spoken at the Grownups Forum of the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco. Her articulate and realistic account of dealing with the denial, anger, refusal of care and the disruptive behavior of a demented parent is both heartbreaking and inspiring. This is the best book I have read on the subject.
