Discussion Summary

Explorer Judy expects to see pockets in garments when she is shopping for new clothes. "No pockets, no purchase" is her mantra. Her concerns include the following:

  • Men's garments have pockets on both sides, yet clothes for women have a pocket on only one side or none at all.
  • Most women's pockets are shallower than men's pockets.
  • Pockets are especially important in travel garments to make essentials easier to keep at hand.

Judy asks how to reach and inform the designers of clothing for women,  i.e., where to start:

  • Fashion Institute of Technology in New York
  • Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco

The question arises whether this design challenge could become an interesting student project for one of the fashion design training centers.

It is noted that there is an active ongoing discussion on Tech-enhanced Life on the topic of designing bras for older women.
