Discussion Summary
Explorer John shared his innovation for safety and security - placing his entry door key in a lockbox hanging on his door handle, and giving family, friends, staff and paramedics the code in case they are responding to his call and he cannot answer the door. Members of the discussion circle were impressed, and approved of his adaptation of this common item.
Companies that offer medical alert systems often make a lock box like this available as an "extra". If you think about it, an important aspect of having a medical alert system is thinking through how the first responders will be able to get through your front door to rescue you.
The only thing to be aware of is that different types of lock boxes have very different security levels. See this article for a nice review of which lock boxes work best.
