Discussion Summary

Saratoga Retirement Village Explorers evaluate a newly invented model jar opener.

An inventor sent a jar opener of novel design to learn what this group of older adults think of it. Due to its different mechanics, members had some challenges learning how best to position and utilize it.

Group members made the following observations:

The Positive:

  • One doesn't have to hold the jar to release the lid.
  • It worked for me.

The Negative:

  • It is awkward to apply it to the jar lid.
  • Its proper operation is not obvious (not intuitively easy).
  • Too large for my drawer.

Summary: The device works, but needs some modification to be one of the best.
