Discussion Summary
SF Explorers discuss their experiences with social distancing during the Covid-19 virus epidemic.
Here are some of the answers to the question "How are we doing?"
- Costco offers special 'seniors only' early morning hours. "It is not crowded, a pleasant and orderly experience." Others who offer special hours or accommodations to older adults include:
- Molly Stone's
- Whole foods
- Trader Joe's
- Safeway
- Rainbow Market
Other members recount calling on Nextdoor volunteers for shopping, and finding fresh produce through the USF farm (former Star Route Farms) in Bolinas (formerly sold produce to upscale commercial restaurants) and is now taking orders for cartons of fresh produce and distributing them to individuals via restaurants. usfca.edu
When asked how they are spending spending time under 'stay at home' orders, the answers were varied:
- Zoom meetings
- Learning to use a new computer
- Working on a childrens book
- Solving 'Computer glitches' using student volunteers while school is out.
- Other volunteer work
- Answering surveys and questionnaires
No one complained about being bored. In fact, Rich is now being called every morning by his 11 year old grandson using Echo and Google voice. He tells the group that under the virus restrictions they actually have more quality time and interaction than usual. Another member summed her experience up by saying that,"It has been so handy (working and ordering remotely) I dont know if I will ever leave my house again - I have everything I need."
