Aging and Community Redefined Conference

I recently joined other thought leaders at a PAMF event on Aging and Community Redefined.

The keynote was Dr. Bruce Chernof, CEO of the SCAN Foundation. His mission is to advance the development of the sustainable continuum of care for seniors. He describes the solution to the problem of the aging with three main points. One is stop perfecting 1972, the second is to address people not patients, and the third is the tipping point is simplicity plus a dose of intensity.

Redefining & Redesigning Aging…By and For Ourselves!

I recently participated in a global design challenge to redefine aging. The Challenge was held on the OpenIDEO website / platform (www.openideo.com) where thousands of design-thinkers from around the world participate in a virtual incubator. My team's idea was one of the six winning ideas. Put simply, the idea is to create a participatory design movement, where mature men and women are empowered to create their own future (products, services, experiences, communities, etc.).

 

 

Life Stage Denial

Many who are standing at the brink of change in later life – though still active, social, and financially secure -survey the changes in lifestyle that could mitigate the ravages of older age and become frozen and unable to make a decision, thinking that taking action makes sense, but “I’m not ready yet.”
